Leaf litter arthropods show little response to structural retention in a Central European forest

چکیده
Abstract Decomposition of leaf litter is a central process energy and nutrient cycling in forests, which arthropods hold important roles. Thus, safeguarding the diversity organisms including increasingly being considered contemporary forestry, not least to facilitate continued ecosystem functioning. Retention forestry tries achieve biodiversity conservation by preservation tree structural elements such as deadwood microhabitats provide more heterogeneous habitat. Leaf are, however, only indirectly connected with structure, raises question if how currently practised retention influences arthropod community. As community includes very diverse range taxa that challenging identify morphologically, we sampled environmental DNA from on 66 plots Black Forest southern Germany were distributed over gradients forest landscape features differed management intensity. We found richness operational taxonomic units, surrogate for species, was related structure but tended increase recent harvest intensity (which did exceed medium our plots). Community composition share coniferous trees present plot, lesser extend elevation coverage. Our results indicate responsive towards different degrees changes introduced long type retained.

15 صفحه اولLeaf litter arthropod responses to tropical forest restoration
Soil and litter arthropods represent a large proportion of tropical biodiversity and perform important ecosystem functions, but little is known about the efficacy of different tropical forest restoration strategies in facilitating their recovery in degraded habitats. We sampled arthropods in four 7- to 8-year-old restoration treatments and in nearby reference forests. Sampling was conducted dur...

A short segment on Alice has been used in introductory programming classes. The intent was to introduce objects in an easily accessible way. In the third iteration of this approach a presentation was made on quality issues in dramatics. The students were instructed on how to make the video more entertaining. Although this may be accomplished in a class hour or less, the results were encouraging...
متن کاملVariation in leaf litter nutrients of a Costa Rican rain forest is related to precipitation
By assessing current leaf litter nutrient dynamics, we may be able to predict responses of nutrient cycling in tropical ecosystems to future environmental change. The goal of this study was to assess whether nutrient cycling is related to seasonal variation in rainfall in a wet tropical forest. We examined leaf litter of an old-growth tropical rain forest in N.E. Costa Rica over a 4-year period...
متن کاملCarbon Sequestration in Central European Forest Ecosystems
The forests of Central Europe play an important role in the retention of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Carbon sequestration is rarely the main objective of forest management and is often an underappreciated by-effect of practical forest management, whereas timber production and protection against natural hazards in mountain regions are the main forest functions. Climate change is expected to alte...
